This was drawn from a real 18th century wax anatomical model in the Specola Museum in Florence Italy. It is the oldest scientific Museum of Europe and the first institution to display realistic anatomical models to an amazed public. Oddities like this were constructed from actual physical specimens at the time and were very popular.
